The Colorado Avalanche have hired Jared Bednar as coach, snapping him up from the Blue Jackets' minor-league system after he led the Cleveland Monsters to the American Hockey League championship last season.Bednar replaces Patrick Roy, a former Avalanche goaltender who quit abruptly this month after three seasons."I'm very happy for Jared, and I wish him nothing but the best," Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said.
