Blackhawks assign Viktor Svedberg, 4 others to AHL after clearing waivers
The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned defenseman Viktor Svedberg and four other players to their AHL affiliate in Rockford, the team announced Tuesday.All five players cleared waivers after being made available to the other 29 teams on Monday afternoon.Forwards Spencer Abbott, Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Sam Carrick, and defenseman Ernest Schilling are joining Svedberg in Rockford.

The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned goaltender Mac Carruth to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL, the team announced Sunday.The move leaves Chicago with 25 forwards, 13 defensemen and four goaltenders remaining on the active roster at training camp.Carruth, 24, was the Blackhawks' seventh-round pick in the 2011 NHL Draft.

Stouffville resident Sam Carrick was one of five players assigned by the Chicago Blackhawks to its American Hockey League affiliate Rockford IceHogs Tuesday, the National Hockey League club announced.A former fifth-round draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2010 NHL entry draft and spending the better part of the last four seasons with their AHL Toronto Marlies affiliate, the 24-year-old Carrick signed with Chicago this off-season after Toronto did not give him a qualifying contract offer.While with the Marlies, the six-foot, 188-pound forward had 16 goals and 18 assists in 52 games last year.
